I used my warm earth tone paints this time. QOR Venetian Red, Naples Yellow, and Indigo blue. Venetian Red is an opaque color to me. I can't get it to glaze well at all. Kinda like the cadmium yellow.
I used Arches cold press paper. A combination of Windsor Newton and QOR by Golden Artists watercolor tubes. I have to admit, its harder than I thought. I originally used Canson 90lb paper, ran it through my printer and discovered that my HP inkjet ink is not waterproof. LOL. What a mess! I'll show you!

So so much work to be done here! Going to need to re-do the glazing...I lost my patience and walked away. Too much water and not enough dry time. Probably going to try and hand draw a new color wheel in sharpie as well.I bought professional grade tiny tubes to start. I need a more transparent yellow too. I have Cadmium Yellow and Naples Yellow. Neither is really good for mixing. My Hobby Lobby was oput of the other yellows recommended for the class.

Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03728363077940181284noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1486408128240454953.post-70252793897900700012016-01-17T21:49:00.000-06:002016-01-17T21:49:02.379-06:00Stuff I've been doing while ....I've been neglecting my blog! I don't have a real reason to blog anymore. I'm not trying to get anyone's attention, get validation or any recognition. I really just use this place for my own personal satisfaction. It's a place to reflect on what I've been doing in my own little crafty world. Here are some cards I've made lately.
Finished this card from earlier today. Colored the bird with SU watercolor crayons, the flowers with zig real brush pens, background with distress inks. When you make a background it is sometimes hard to find a way to use it. This seemed to fit the mood.Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03728363077940181284noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1486408128240454953.post-28285667383698604142015-09-24T12:04:00.001-05:002015-09-24T12:04:51.993-05:00My experience with an online watercolor classSo this week I have been attending an Online Card Class for Watercoloring. I have never wanted to take a class online before, I felt like I could watch enough YouTube videos for free to learn about crafting. I just really needed some help with watercoloring. I feel like I can color with my Copics good enough to not be embarrassed after using them for a few years. This class seemed like a good idea. I read through the supply list and felt pretty confidant that I had enough of the supplies to actively participate. I own watercolor crayons from Stampin Up, Zig Clean Color Real Brush pens, gelatos(well, 4) Distress Inks, even a crayola pan set with 24 colors. I don't have any tube paints (scary) or Watercolor pencils(shocking). I watched all the videos for the 3day class, and read all the information. I decided to participate and even uploaded a few cards after I tried the techniques that I could. It's been fun but messy practicing. I learned a few things:

1. I need better brushes, mine shed. I bought a package at Michaels on sale(Craftsmart brand)
2. I need a package of watercolor pencils
3. I need to keep a clean cup of water next to my dirty rinse cup.
4. I will waste a lot of watercolor paper and I need to get over it.
5. I am NOT good at watercoloring! I need more practice.
6. I have a heavy hand with color...I don't do Light very well.

Here are a few pictures I took of some of the messes I made and some of the final projects I came up with So far.

As you can clearly see, I have a long way to go. I am learning how to use mixed media and distress ink, stenciling, layering, distress paints, gesso, I figure it is a good way to use all these art supplies I have been collecting for years. I am still watching videos online about mixed media, but you can't learn unless you do it. I mean practice like many many times until you see what works and what you like.

Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03728363077940181284noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1486408128240454953.post-73886610959221885612015-06-07T14:13:00.004-05:002015-06-07T14:13:46.631-05:00Art JournalingSo, as I continue to enjoy stamping and paper crafting, I am learning some things along the way. Like I like watching YouTube Videos of new techniques and styles. I have always wondered about art journals. I didn't understand their purpose but liked the pretty pictures.I see people create big messes on paper and use mixed media products, and create all kinds of stuff. It is kinda cool. I'm better at a more controlled design, like seeing something and then recreating it in my own way so it is slightly different. Never really that good at making original art. Even as a kid I would sit and draw for hours, trying to copy pictures from the Sunday comics in the newspaper. I was pretty good at Snoopy! I can still draw him! But, not really an artist. Just like to make stuff.

I have been sick for 2 weeks with a wicked upper respiratory infection. During that time I started looking at pinterest images and looking at many different techniques and art journaling. Then I saw JoAnn's had Tim Holtz Distress inks on sale, 40% off! Wow! I had about 9 distress ink pads already but at that price I went a little crazy. I now have twice that many LOL. Time to use some of that stuff! So without further ado, I made my first art journal page. Don't laugh, I"ve got some learning to do. I am learning and my goal is to use the journal as evidence that I can stretch myself , use those supplies I never use and get artsy! Um helloo, I bought that Tattered Angels glimmer mist 5 years ago and never used it before! I have stencils and embossing paste and distress inks and even a stain to try! I am going for it.
I have 3 of these birdhouses to alter, this is number 2. I used some very old Basic Gray Lily Kate papers from maybe 8 years ago. I might keep this one for myself.
It is already mid March and I sort of made a New Years resolution to start crafting and stamping again. It isn't going well LOL! Oh well. I have stamped an occasional card in the past few months but I haven't really documented them. My blog is really just for me, not looking for recognition or anything like that. I do like looking back at the things I have made just to see if I have improved.

I decided to try altering a birdhouse after hoarding a couple that I bought maybe 4 years ago. About the time my hubby said he was going to throw them away I decided I better do something with them. My mod podge wasn't even dried up like I thought it might be after sitting on a shelf all this time. I started off by looking at examples I found on Pinterest. I didn't want to go buy a bunch of supplies so my goal was to use pre existing craft supplies in my hoard. I had paper, dies, chip board, prima flowers ect... I knew I could do something with all this stuff. I wanted shabby chic for sure, so I found an old paper pack from Crafty Secrets called Earthy from the Heartwarming Vintage Collection. I have had that paper at least 6 years LOL.My second goal was to find colors that might work in my Mother's guest room. She has a bird theme going on in there. So I might give it to her for Mother's day if it looks good enough. Anyway. Here are a few photos of the mostly finished project. I say mostly because I might add a couple things if I look at it long enough and decide it needs more.
I think I am over it.I found some things I made on my phone I will share so you 3 people that follow me can see I haven't stopped crafting, just don't need to post them or feel the need for validation this way anymore. I participate in the MFT sketch challenges over on SCS occasionally and still add to my gallery there occasionally. Goodbye for now. I don't think I will be using this blog again anytime soon.
I started this blog years ago and couldn't think of a name so as a joke some friends and I came up with the bunny rescuing part. I actually did rescue a bunny and she had babies and we still have Sugar. He is a happy little guy that leaves in a condo most of the year outside except when it is 100 degrees outside. Like now, he is in my living room in his old cage smelling up my house. Until I think of something better, I am keeping the Texas Chattin' stamper part. Anyone want a six year old neutered rabbit for cheap? I have been trying to give him away for years and I never get any takers. *sigh*Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03728363077940181284noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1486408128240454953.post-48680212724735626342012-07-13T00:00:00.000-05:002012-07-13T00:00:10.942-05:00MFT sketch...sorta

I started this one using the MFT sketch for this week. Umm, it wasn't working for me at all. I had to flip it, then I couldn't use a sentiment on the front. So it's very loosely based on the MFT sketch. I used the Inspired by the Sea set and MME Indie 6x6 paper. A muse ink. PTI Ocean tides paper. MFT sea charms die and waves die.

The other day my husband requested a birthday card for someone he knows that has fallen on hard times. I needed a card with next to no embelishments. Well, that was almost impossible for me. Oh and he needed it that same day. What?!! No warning? Just pull off a man card in an hour? I can't do it! First of all, I have probably a couple hundred cards in my stash. He knows this and says, "just dig through that pile and find one". Ummm, hello, I have no man stamps. There , I said it. All my stuff is girly or cutsie. I have a tie set, and a golf set, and a BBQ set, but none of those would work. The fishing bear was too cute too. Sigh. Texana design to the rescue. Cactus worked. Sorry about the blur, he gave me about 10 seconds to take a picture. I am not even sure the glue was dry when he shoved it in the envelope.Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03728363077940181284noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1486408128240454953.post-28682686627138374252012-07-03T17:54:00.000-05:002012-07-06T09:11:00.220-05:00Wow...It doesn't even look the same

I haven't uploaded in so long, blogger is totally different. I have been stamping again for 2 days. That is not much! I did make some things I never photographed or published. I gave them as gifts and it was too quick to fool with them. Yesterday I picked up some fun new stamps at Achiver's called Art Impressions Girlfriends. I was motivated. Don't look too close because I haven't stamped/colored in a long time. Mistakes were made. Especially water coloring. I am going to get back to stamping again, I love it. It makes me happy. I miss it and need it to distract me. Plus I have a ton of supplies that are collecting dust and they are feeling very neglected. Hope I can get back to coloring better soon. Going to just keep practicing.

I went to the annual Austin Shoebox swap last weekend and this is the card I made. If you have never been to a swap, I would like to recommend them. We had around 30 people attend this year at The Lone Star Retreat Center in Georgetown Texas. Basically you each bring supplies for everyone to make your card and you get to go home with 30 original cards that you stamp while you are there. I have met some wonderful friends through the years at these swaps. Great fun!

I tried to stay truer to the actual sketch this time. I forced myself to use this Basic Grey paper I bought months ago, it's called Lauderdale. It is extremely bright paper and way out of my comfort zone. I basically went through the pack and found the least crazy patterns I was willing to try. Now I like It! I hope you do too.Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03728363077940181284noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1486408128240454953.post-37826838735379834222011-09-15T09:00:00.000-05:002011-09-15T09:00:01.640-05:00First Class

This is probably the cutest PI ever LOL. Not really , but she is darn cute! I freckled her nose with a SU cocoa marker. MFT rosette die was giving me trouble staying stuck down but I think I finally got it secured with a sticky large glue dot. Also used the MFT well worn words dies. October Afternoon Fly a Kite papers. Colored with copic markers.Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03728363077940181284noreply@blogger.com2
